After a long gap MetaTrader 5 does not have to be brought up to date by hand. Most of what it shows arrives on connection; a few things wait to be asked for.

On connection the terminal asks the server for the present state and receives it: current quotes for the symbols it follows, the specifications of those symbols, and the exact state of open positions and pending orders. What it does not do is fetch things nobody asked for — price history for a timeframe never opened, or a symbol absent from Market Watch, arrive only when an action requests them.

- Quotes resume on connection: the terminal asks for the present state rather than replaying what it missed.
- Symbol specifications are read from the server, so a change made while the terminal was closed is already there at the next start.
- The state of open positions and pending orders comes back exactly as the server holds it.
- Price history is filled in when a chart asks for it — opening a timeframe is what triggers the request.
- A symbol that is not in Market Watch is not being followed, and adding it is a manual step.
- None of this affects an open position: it was being repriced while the terminal was shut.

A terminal reopened after weeks does not try to reconstruct the interval. It connects, states what it is following, and receives the present values for those things. Nothing is replayed and nothing has to be reconciled, because the authoritative version was never on this machine.
That is why the length of the gap makes so little difference. A day and a month produce the same first screen, since both are answered by a single question to the server rather than by catching up.
What waits for a request
The terminal is deliberately incurious about things nothing is looking at. Price history for a timeframe that has never been opened is not there until a chart asks for it, and a symbol nobody added to Market Watch is not being followed at all.
Neither of those is a gap in the data. They are absences of a request, and they are filled the instant one is made — which is why a first chart on an unfamiliar timeframe takes a moment and every later one does not.
The account was never out of date
Whatever the terminal did or did not have locally, the positions were being repriced and the pending orders were being watched on the broker side throughout. The first screen after a long absence is not the moment the account catches up; it is the moment somebody looks.
Reading it in that order avoids a common misreading. A number that appears the instant the platform connects is not a number the platform produced — it is one it was handed.
