Closing the browser tab ends a session, not an account. The connection, the panel arrangement and the chart on screen were held by the browser for the duration and disappear with it. Open positions, pending orders, protective levels and accruals are held on the broker side and carry on exactly as before, whether the tab was closed deliberately, by a crash or by somebody shutting the machine down.

A browser tab is the most disposable window an account has, which makes it the clearest illustration of the difference between a session and an account. Closing it ends one of those completely and touches nothing in the other.

What ends with the tab and what does not

What ends is the session: the connection, the panel arrangement, the chart that was on screen, the zoom level and everything else the browser was holding in memory for the duration. None of it was stored anywhere permanent, which is exactly why signing out of a shared machine leaves nothing behind.

What does not end is the account. An open position stays open and keeps being repriced, a pending order keeps its level and can still trigger, stop-loss and take-profit levels stay attached to their positions, and an accrual still attaches to anything carried past the daily rollover. All of that is on the broker side and has no idea a tab existed.

The distinction matters most in the awkward cases: a browser that crashes, a machine that is shut down by somebody else, a network that drops mid-session. In each of them the visible half disappears at once and the other half is untouched, so the correct response is to reconnect and read the record rather than to assume something was interrupted.

A session is short-lived on purpose

Everything the browser holds is meant to be temporary. That is a feature rather than a limitation: it is what lets a machine that will never be used again be used once, and it is why signing out is a complete act rather than a partial one.

The price of that design is that none of it survives. A layout arranged over an hour is gone the moment the tab is, and nothing anywhere is keeping a copy of it.

The half that does not know the tab existed

Positions and orders were never in the browser. They were being held and checked on the broker side before the tab was opened and they go on being held and checked after it is closed, at the same rate and under the same rules.

This is why an unexpected disconnection is not an event on the account. It is an event on the window, and the record written during the gap is the same record that would have been written with the window open.
