What Changes in an Instrument Without You · Tanzania

A symbol is not a constant. Its contract specification and its availability are maintained on the venue side and can move while a position in it is already open.

An instrument carries properties that nobody on the account side chose: its contract size, its price step, the way its point is valued and whether it is accepting orders at this moment. Those live on the venue side and can be changed there. A change applies to the symbol, so it also reaches positions that were opened under the previous values, and it arrives without any action, any notification or any update to the program on the account side.

Two sets of properties inside one position

Every open position is made of two things that are easy to confuse. One half was chosen by the person who opened it: the volume, the direction, the protective levels. That half is frozen until somebody changes it, and nothing on the venue side rewrites it.

The other half came with the symbol and was never a choice at all. Contract size, price step, the way a point converts into money — these are attributes of the instrument, and the order simply inherited whatever they were at the moment it was sent.

A change reaches trades that already exist

Because the inherited half belongs to the symbol rather than to the ticket, an adjustment made on the venue side does not stop at the boundary of new orders. It applies to the symbol, and a position holding that symbol is holding whatever the symbol currently is.

The practical consequence is that a position can be worth a slightly different amount per point than it was when it was opened, without anybody having touched it. The position was not modified; the thing it refers to was.

Where the current values are readable

The order ticket is not the place to look. It records what was sent, and it goes on recording that forever. The specification of the symbol is a separate view in the platform, and it shows the values that are in force now rather than the ones that applied when the trade was placed.

Nothing has to be downloaded or refreshed by hand for that view to be current. The platform asks the server for it on connection, which is why a specification changed during a long absence is already correct the first time the platform is opened again.

Frequently asked questions

Can the specification of an instrument change while a position in it is open?
Yes. The specification belongs to the symbol rather than to the order, so a change on the venue side applies to positions that already exist.
Does a change of specification modify the order that was sent?
No. Volume, direction and protective levels stay exactly as they were left. What changes is the symbol those values refer to.
Does the platform need an update to see a new specification?
No. The specification is requested from the server when the platform connects, so it is already current at the next start.
Can an instrument be visible in the platform and still refuse an order?
Yes. Being listed and accepting orders are two different states of the symbol, and only the second one has to be true for a trade to go through.
Where is the value of a point for an instrument shown?
Against the symbol itself, in its specification view. The order ticket shows what was sent, not what the symbol currently is.
Is any of this a decision made on the account?
No. These properties are maintained on the venue side and are inherited by every order that uses the symbol, whichever account sent it.

Muy mala la última actualización. Antes se podía saltar de instrumento a instrumento desde los gráficos, ahora tenés que ir al panel de inicio para cambiar de instrumento.
